The production of aluminum slugs begins with the cast strip, which is then cold-rolled to the desired thickness and then stamped into various shapes.what is the standard purity for aerosol slugs? The slugs are then annealed to adjust their hardness (Brinell hardness 16-21 HB) and treated with surface treatments, such as shot blasting or tumbling, to remove oxide layers and improve the surface for coating or lubrication. Strict quality control measures are conducted during this process to ensure that dimensions, tolerances, and hardness meet specifications.
To maintain the highest standards of purity, we produce both virgin and recycled aluminum slugs. Our PIR (post-industrial recycled) aluminum slugs are made from leftover scraps that have been collected, reprocessed, and formed into new slugs. These slugs are suitable for all forms of processing, including high-precision deep drawing, and offer the same quality as our virgin slugs with a lower environmental footprint. Our PCR (post-consumer recycled) aluminum slugs, meanwhile, are produced from used aluminum products that have been returned to us by end consumers for reprocessing. These slugs are ideal for impact extrusion and help brands meet their sustainability goals with minimal waste.
Once the slugs have been processed, they are ready to be saw cut to the required size using high-speed precision sawing equipment. Depending on the material, the saw cutting tolerances are adjusted to ensure consistency in both formability and deep-drawing performance. Finally, the slugs are annealed again to adjust their hardness and machinability.
In terms of contaminant classifications, ISO8573.1 : 2001 defines purity classes for three different categories: solid particulates, water, and oil. Class 0 is the cleanest, while class 1 through 5 describe compressed air concentrations from 0.1 to 5.01 mg of oil per cubic meter of air.
In addition to ensuring the highest level of cleanliness, our quality assurance team also inspects the slugs for surface defects. Large scores, spallings, and cracks are not permitted. However, slight scores, indentations, and edges deformations caused by the stamping or forming processes are acceptable.
